Every year, Women in Construction (WIC) Week shines a spotlight on the incredible women shaping the construction industry. This year, from March 2-8, 2025, we recognize the strides women have made in this historically male-dominated field and the importance of continued progress in fostering an inclusive workforce. At LEAD Staffing, we are proud to celebrate the women who are making a difference in the trades, leadership, and beyond.

The Importance of Women in Construction

Women bring diverse skills, perspectives, and innovation to the construction industry, strengthening teams and improving project outcomes. While construction remains a male-dominated field, women are entering the workforce in greater numbers, making their mark in roles ranging from skilled trades to executive leadership. According to the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), women now make up nearly 11% of the construction workforce—a number that continues to grow thanks to advocacy, mentorship, and career development programs.

Spotlight: Carla Knapp and Her Impact on the Industry

One of the standout leaders in the construction and staffing industry is Carla Knapp, a driving force behind LEAD National and an advocate for workforce development. With over 15 years of industry experience, Carla has played a mission-critical role in bridging the gap between employers and highly qualified workers across the country.

Carla’s impact extends beyond her role at LEAD Staffing. She has been involved with multiple industry organizations dedicated to supporting and elevating professionals in the skilled trades, including Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). She also served as the Vice President of the NAWIC Milwaukee Chapter and remains a long-time member of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

Carla is passionate about the vital role skilled trades play in supporting infrastructure, electricity, running water, and the buildings that form the foundation of every other industry. She considers it a privilege to partner with industry leaders and tradespeople, advocating for opportunities and advancements within the skilled trades sector. Through her advocacy, she continues to push for greater representation of women in construction, supporting initiatives that promote mentorship, training, and leadership opportunities for women in the field. Her work reflects the core mission of Women in Construction Week—recognizing and advancing the contributions of women in the industry.
