Position Summary:
LEAD Technical (www.lead-technical.com) has partnered with a well-established Chattanooga manufacturer and seeks a Tooler/Manual Machinist in the Maintenance Department to join the maintenance team. This position is critical in ensuring that tools, molds, and equipment are crafted and maintained to the highest standards, supporting the company’s production efforts. This position will be a 6-month contract to direct hire job opportunity.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Fabricate and assemble aluminum molds and tools from raw materials to production-ready components.
- Utilize a variety of equipment, including lathes, milling machines, welders, and drills, to craft molds and tools based on technical drawings and specifications.
- Install necessary plumbing components for tooling and molds.
- Troubleshoot and make necessary modifications to tools and molds, performing repairs and preventative maintenance when needed.
- Diagnose mold-related issues during production processes and provide corrective actions.
- Construct and plan layouts for jigs and related items as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Engage in training and skill development for teammates, contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including participation in the 5S organizational system.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to meet production goals.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in toolmaking, mold repair, or modification (tooling certification from Chattanooga State Technical College is a plus).
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Competence in operating a range of machine shop tools, such as lathes, milling machines, welding equipment, and drills.
- Ability to plan and execute tasks independently, ensuring all aspects of a job are completed accurately.
- Experience working with plumbing components for tooling and molds is essential.
