Construction Estimator
Position Type: Full-time, Direct Hire 
Salary Range: $70,000-$100,000 BOE
Shift: Monday-Friday

Position Summary:
LEAD Technical (www.lead-technical.comhas partnered with a well-established contractor in the Chattanooga area, and we are seeking a seasoned Commercial Construction Estimator. As a Commercial Construction Estimator, you will play a critical role in the preparation and evaluation of project bids. You will develop bid scope packages, solicit and analyze subcontractor bids, and create detailed cost analyses. Your expertise in reviewing contract documents, plans, and specifications will ensure accurate and competitive project estimates. You will maintain current pricing databases, manage multiple estimating projects, and develop strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. Additionally, you will support the bid day efforts, participate in value-engineering processes, and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating practices. Your role will also involve attending project meetings, assisting in project turnovers, and ensuring all activities conform to safety and security standards. This position requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within the bid team.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive bid scope packages.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compile bids, creating detailed bid tabs for internal use.
  • Support bid day efforts with critical project and scope knowledge.
  • Create preliminary project schedules to estimate total project costs accurately.
  • Conduct take-off reviews and generate estimates based on conceptual information and construction drawings.
  • Review and analyze contract documents, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, soil reports, and addendums.
  • Input take-offs into computer spreadsheets or specialized estimating software.
  • Obtain and analyze bids from subcontractors.
  • Prepare cost analyses, summarizing material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
  • Make informed estimates when predetermined standards are not available.
  • Report any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer databases to the immediate supervisor.
  • Attend pre-bid walkthrough meetings and deliver bids as required.
  • Actively solicit subcontractors and suppliers to achieve optimal participation via phone calls, emails, etc.
  • Review project documents to identify unique scope challenges.
  • Develop and maintain current unit pricing and systems pricing within the estimating database.
  • Maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and government requirements.
  • Submit and follow up on the status of proposals submitted to clients as directed.
  • Provide backup support for estimating change orders and production worksheets.
  • Represent the company in project meetings when requested.
  • Manage multiple estimating projects concurrently at different stages.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist in reviewing subcontracts and purchase agreements on awarded projects in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Participate in project turnover processes to educate the operations team on all aspects of new projects.
  • Assist in the implementation and improvement of standard practices and procedures for the estimating department.
  • Participate in value-engineering processes.
  • Support the subcontractor/vendor qualification process.
  • Assist the estimating team in understanding various project aspects, including means, methods, logistics, and resources.
  • Seek continuous improvement through peer feedback and regular reviews.
  • Attend weekly, quarterly, and yearly management meetings to discuss project-related items, company performance, and company goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Bid Team Leader and the Bid Team in preparing for Bid Days, and occasionally act as the Bid Team Leader.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with appropriate safety and security standards.
 
Experience and Education Requirements:
  • Preferably multiple years of experience with Construction (especially Construction Estimating).    
  • Minimum 2 years of cumulative co-op/internship/post graduate experience with commercial   construction firm(s)  
  • Preferably experience with aspects of construction estimating  
  • Eager to learn new ideas & methods and adapt as required to improve processes and procedures  
  • Reliable transportation  
  • Valid Driver’s License  
  • Excellent communication skills  
  • Be a team player with a professional attitude  
  • Competencies: Collaboration Skills, Ethical Conduct, Time Management, Thoroughness,  
  • Problem Solving/Analysis, Results Driven, Financial Management, Communication Proficiency.  
  • Experience with industry software platforms such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Project oPrimavera, Procore, and experience with takeoff software such as Bluebeam is preferable.
