PIPEFITTER 1 ST Class Job Description The Pipefitters are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner. II. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training/Experience) 1. Reliable transportation. 2. Basic stick ruler measurements. 3. Basic knowledge of hand tools and testing equipment. 4. Work a job with general supervision and to be able to complete small tasks. 5. Knowledge of various testing and obstructed flows. 6. Knowledge of installing various pipe hangers (Type 1 and Type 2). 7. Torch safety. 8. Basic blanking and tagging knowledge. 9. Basic knowledge of ship design and layout. 10. Familiarity with WAFs. 11. Must be able to lift 50lbs. 12. Must be familiar with safety regulations and competent person tickets. III. IV. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS This position reports to shop supervisor. This position develops and maintains a positive working relationship with other Pipefitters and supports a team approach in the pursuit of common company goals. . PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES A. Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.). B. Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.). C. Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs. D. Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc). E. Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.). F. Assures that General Dynamics-NASSCO’s Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work. G. Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times. H. Assures that a 30 minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas. I. Assures that fire watches are assigned and maintained in the proper position. J. Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure. K. Identify pipe class and material fittings. V. ACCOUNTABILITY Responsible for effective, efficient and safe accomplishment of all assigned tasks. VI. STANDARD EQUIPMENT ISSUE None. VII. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job. Occasional weekend work and / or extended hours.
